For Christina, nuclear power runs in the family. Her dad, a journeyman electrician of more than 45 years, helped build OPG’s Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in the 1980s. Her two brothers also have decades of experience in the industry. Now Christina, an Aecon employee, is working as a Health and Safety Advisor for the Darlington Refurbishment project.
“I’m the first person new hires meet for their health and safety orientation,” said Christina, who develops safe work plans, coordinates site inspections and ensures trades are performing their work safely. “Everybody wants to feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. I enjoy working on this project – it’s history in the making.”
Despite her family’s background in nuclear, her career path wasn’t always a given. After earning a degree in Physical Education and Health Promotion, and a postgraduate certificate in Workplace Wellness and Health Promotion, she took on a few odd jobs before starting her electrician trade.
Now a Red Seal journeyman electrician, Christina is using her education in health and her skilled trade background to ensure work on the Darlington Refurbishment is performed safely and without incident.
